A teenage youth was discovered deceased only a few days after being falsely accused of taking the cremated remains of a deceased baby during a break-in, an inquest has learned.

Heartbreaking Discovery

The young boy's parents found his remains in his room at his Connah's Quay home on 19 November 2021.

False Accusations Start

The investigation learned how his parent received a communication on November 8th, 2021 via online platforms, from a individual asking if Kai was her child. The communication stated: "Inform him thanks for breaking into my flat."

In a statement presented to the proceedings, the mother said the individual had been in the news, asserting her baby's ashes had been stolen in a burglary - a claim which was untrue.

Police Investigation

An investigation report from police later concluded the alleged break-in victim had "provided false information" and "it now appears that said property was not taken in the beginning".

Media reports about the alleged taken ashes generated social media responses, and although Kai was not identified in the messages, his parent said people "understood it was him".

The "online posts were really upsetting", she said.

Emotional Wellbeing Effect

She explained that her son had been diagnosed with mild attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that condition, other peoples' views really were important to him.

"It would have affected him severely," she commented, "especially when this was untrue".

Kai was detained at his residence, but nothing was found. He was transported to a law enforcement facility and later released pending further inquiry.

Authorities said they would be in contact, the inquest learned, but had failed to reached out to the relatives by the time of his death.

Withdrawal and Worry

His parent said her son "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had heard anything from the police", because his ADHD meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like much longer".

When she spoke to him about the alleged incident, she said her child informed her he had entered the house because the resident who lived there had said he could use the toilet anytime he wanted, but denied taking anything.

Digital Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her husband, Mrs Lloyd said her child was being bullied online after the allegations.

The proceedings heard that one young adult urged the teenager to end his life.

She had no concerns on the night before he died, describing how she had listened to him "chuckling and joking".

She described him as a "caring, loving" young man, and said her "family is totally shattered".

He had been "obviously concealing his worries", she stated, noting that he could not stand to have anybody "think bad of him".

School Reaction

The hearing heard from school staff at Connah's Quay secondary school.

On 8 November, she "heard some students talking that the student had been detained and that was the first I learned".

"He told me... he'd done nothing wrong," she continued.

After the discussion, the staff member said she called the family's parents' telephone and provided a voicemail saying she had communicated to Kai about the accusations.

The proceedings heard his family said they did not receive that communication.

Official Conclusion

Lead coroner informed the inquest he would wait for documents regarding what enhancements had been made to handling individuals with the condition, before determining whether he should make a prevention of future deaths report.

Providing a narrative conclusion, he said: "Approximately 8 November 2021, unsubstantiated allegations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a young child.

"Probably untruths were afterwards embellished and amplified through the medium of online networks.

"During November 11th, he was interviewed by the authorities and following his questioning he was freed whilst investigations proceeded."

The coroner determined: "Exists no evidence that the actions or omissions of any agency caused or contributed to his death and although it was the outcome of a personal act it is impossible to determine his intent."
