One senior officer who jumped to the assistance of a fellow officer that got attacked by a knife attacker received the King's Commendation for Courage.
Sgt Tim Ansell grappled with 27-year-old Jacob Brown after he pressed a weapon to the throat of his partner Sgt Marc Foster.
Brown initiated the assault as the policemen and their third officer, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a motorist after a road collision in Whalley Range in summer 2023.
Brown attacked with blade the two Sergeant Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to Police Constable Wolstencroft stopped him with a Taser.
"Policeman attacked," the officer was heard to say over his radio.
Officer-mounted and dashboard camera video shared by the force showed Brown, that was clothed in dark clothing with a hood covering head, rush to Sergeant Foster from behind with a blade extended.
He struck the policeman who stumbled and went down to the ground, before Sergeant Ansell jumped in and attempted to subdue him to the floor even though being multiple times hit with the weapon.
Police Constable Wolstencroft drew his Taser and awaited a clear shot, bringing the confrontation to an end.
Sgt Ansell can be heard to say: "I need something on my throat now, I'm bleeding in the neck."
Sergeant Ansell received multiple open wounds to his neck and further injuries to his limbs and body, while Sgt Foster received slash wounds.
The department said Sergeant Foster employed his hands to control his partner's hemorrhaging prior to paramedics came.
