World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second consecutive year.

The 27-year-old secured four tournament victories – the most on tour – including successfully defending the US Open this past September versus Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth career Grand Slam singles triumph.

A Year of Consistency

Across the season, Sabalenka competed in a tour-best nine championship matches, with defeats coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.

The star player also triumphed at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the whole season as the world number one, ending 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.

This past summer, she became the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.

Historic Achievements

Sabalenka finished the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and earned a record eleven million pounds in prize money.

She earned nearly 80% of the votes cast by global tennis journalists.

Later this month, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a greater prominence".

Other WTA Award Recipients

• Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking a extended hiatus following the birth of her daughter and returning to the sport earlier this season.
• Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after starting the season positioned outside the world's top 300 and soaring to world number 18.
• Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after securing their second Grand Slam title as a pair.
• Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after making five finals.

Last week, Carlos Alcaraz won three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third time.
